It's safe to say that Kansas City is a cupcake town. Since 2008, when Sweet City Cupcakes started delivering cupcakes a few more cupcake options have come to Kansas City. We are so grateful for our regular cupcake clients and really appreciate all the suggestions we get for flavors and decorations. One of these days we are going to start posting our experiences with the cupcake deliveries. Some of it is very funny.

This week we have helped our community just a little bit..we donated a gift certificate for the JOCO Library's 10/12 silent auction that benefits the United Way. On Wednesday we donated cupcakes to an event hosted by the Big Brother's/ Big Sisters, they were recruiting volunteers, We hope it was a big success. And last night we brought cupcakes to the volunteers working the phones for the KCUR fund and membership drive. Thanks to our paying customers we are able to continually support local causes that make all of our lives better.

Elizabeth Gilbert loved our cupcakes, and apparently ate quite a few during the book signing.

We spent the evening listening to Elizabeth Gilbert talk about life.....life since Eat Pray Love primarily. She talked about her creative process and what it's like to be perceived as someone who has figured it out. She's exactly what we thought she would be like...smart, witty , humble, honest....

After the main event there was a private reception. We sat at a table with 7 women, 3 sets of sisters @ the table..... Liz Gilbert fans all.

One sister flew in from Baltimore to see Elizabeth Gilbert with her sister, 1 sister read Eat Pray Love thru brain cancer treatment....our table had quite a few laughs. I wish we had gotten names of the girls we shared a table with.

I asked Liz Gilbert for her favorite place in Italy that is off the beaten....can't wait to go "Alfredo Y Ada"

Cupcakes and trip to Italy

Saturday Oct 3rd, Lots of Chocolate minis in the oven.

We leave for Italy in 159 days. I know that seems like ages from now but time goes so quickly we know it will be here before we know it. I was ichatting with my friend Laura in NY last night and she encouraged me to start blogging about the cupcake & Italy connection. So, here goes my first entry.

Franny and I are going to Italy and cupcakes are paying the way. 8 of us have booked the air already, on miles, and we decided a few months ago to pay for our trip with cupcake money. Now that might seem a little self indulgent, and well, it is and that's the whole point.

We are indulging ourselves and rewarding ourselves for all the early mornings of cupcakes.

We are so excited to be going to Italy in March but it is so tempting to dip into the travel fund and go to NYC and attend the very first cupcake convention. These are the fondant flowers that we will work with on the shoot today. After years in the photography business you would think we would know how much work is involved with a simple shoot. We have been working for many hours and we haven't even seen a camera yet.

We've been working on some custom butter cookies to put on top of our cupcakes this season. Our photo shoot is tomorrow, so we are playing with cookie ideas so we can offer edible tops as an alternative to fondant.

Today we met with Mike Fairchild, the designer of our wonderful city scape logo.... http://www.dezinathon.com He is going to start working on our new web site .....finally , a real website......may take a few months, but we are looking forward to it.

We had a few extra cupcakes left from our orders today so we took a variety pack to the Barack Obama headquarters.......all those hard working volunteers need some good cupcakes to keep their energy up........Si se puede. The stress of this election will be over soon ...... Yes we can.
